This morning after Jazzercise, I had big plans to clean, clean, clean, and clean some more. (My in-laws are coming Thursday, after all) I loaded up the washing machine, filled up my buckets, turned off the sink faucet, and the water kept coming. No matter what I did, it just kept trickling.

According to my dad, all we needed was a faucet repair kit. Matt left work, headed to Home Depot, and come home with the kit. This is what happened next:

And then it wouldn't go back together, and we had extra parts, and a part looked like it might be broken. So back to Lowe's went Matt. He returned home with another part, did a little work from home, and then realized he left the part that looked broken at Lowe's. Back to Lowe's he went.

While he was gone, I took the opportunity to clean out under the sink.

Matt came back from Lowe's with a new faucet and dinner. The guy at Lowe's told Matt it should only take 30 minutes to install for someone who has done it before. After dinner he tackled the job and was done in an hour!!! Behold, a beautiful, shiny, working, non dripping faucet:

Basketball Hoop Take 2!

Once upon a time we had a basketball hoop over our garage.

After almost a year, the homeowners association threatened to sue us if we didn't take it down. It's against the laws of the HOA to have a goal mounted to the garage. I had a sad little boy the day it came down.

Yesterday, Matt went to Academy and bought us a portable one. We spent the afternoon assembling it. The boys were able to shoot baskets for about 5 minutes before we had to get ready for a hockey game. Today, they were able to get outside (even though it was 48 degrees) and shoot some hoops.

I'm wondering how long it's going to take before we get another letter. I think when it's not in use, it is supposed to be hidden away. Ha!

Right now I'm just going to enjoy the excitement of two little boys!

Washer Saga: Broken Down

I waited. And waited. And it piled up. I ended up having to take a load of the boy's clothes over to a Amy's last Friday, while we played. They were out of socks. Monday, January 30th finally came, the repairman called, he was on his way, and I started sorting laundry. Seven loads, just on my bedroom floor alone.

It took the repairman all of 5 minutes to find the problem. Apparently, my LG washer, and only this model, has a design flaw. The valve is mounted sideways, so the hoses that connect to it, rub up against another part during a wash cycle. In five months, it rubbed a hole in the intake hose. The bad news, he didn't have the parts on his truck. The worse news, he can't come back until February 9th to replace them. The good news, I guess, he told me I could technically use the washer until then. He disconnected the intake hose (skipping the pre-wash cycle). He said that I might get an error code, and if that happens, I was supposed to go ghetto. Get a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket and just pour some water into the washer. What?????

To make this long story a little bit shorter, I was terrified to use the washer. But I did. I had to. I had over 10 loads of laundry waiting. I did have to add water. Twice. The first load took over 2 hours in the washer - I wasn't adding enough water. I've since gotten the hang of it, but let me tell you, filling the bucket and washing clothes this way is getting really old. And I still have a week to go. Funny thing is, the parts showed up on my door step Thursday afternoon. I called to make sure I was on the schedule for the 9th. I am now. Again between 1-5. He'll probably come again right when I need to pick Logan up from school. I'll let you know what happens. Crossing my fingers that it's as simple as posting - It's Fixed!

Neighborhood Sports (the league Noah plays basketball in) put together a free clinic this afternoon with the Austin Toros. The Toros are the NBA Developmental team for the San Antonio Spurs. Good thing Noah wore his basketball shoes to church, because we accidentally left his shorts at home!

Delayed Brehm Christmas

Last Saturday, the entire Brehm family (minus Conner - burning the Aggie bonfire; and Shirlee - she had to work) met in Kingsland for a delayed Christmas gathering. As the Brehm's usually do, we ate, we laughed, we played games, we opened gifts, and had a great time being together.

Noah is learning to play chess. One indication that this child is on his way to being smarter than his Momma!

We've also been having Qwirkle matches at night before bed. Usually it's Logan and Dad vs. Noah vs. Mommy. Last night, Logan decided to be on Mom's team, and Dad and Noah were flying solo. Noah convincingly won his first solo game last night. He was pretty pumped. (We won't mention that Daddy came in last.)

Tale As Old As Time

Took my favorite little lady to see my favorite movie today. I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money to see a movie in the theater that I've already seen at least 100 times. One that we can watch over and over again at home. For free. But then I started thinking. Hard to believe, but I never saw it in the theater the first time around. (1991) I wanted Mattie to see it on the big screen. And it was in 3D. Beauty and the Beast was as wonderful and magical as ever. Mattie's face lit up over and over again. It was the perfect afternoon outing with my little princess.

Basketball Season Begins

After a successful season of coaching football, Matt decided to coach a season of basketball. After 2 practices, he wasn't sure what to expect today at their first game.

A Long Overdue Week In Review

Unintentionally, I went on a blog break.

I spent the last week trying to get back into the swing of kids going back to school and husband going back to work after 2 weeks off. I taught 5 Jazzercise classes, Noah started basketball practice (with Matt coaching), Mattie went back to dance class, Christmas had to be put away, new stuff had to find a home among the clutter, my brother had surgery, and Matt had long nights at work. Oh, and trying to meal plan for the week after eating awesome food for 2 weeks straight? Impossible. And did I mention that I was fighting a sinus infection all week?

I hope Papa and Great Grandma aren't too mad at me.

We did try to take advantage of the weather this past week and get outside:

The boys couldn't wait for the weekend, when they could play video games again!

They also had a weekend full of hockey. Saturday night they had boys night out with dad going to Plucker's for dinner before the game. Tonight, they are at another game, and here is a pic of the boys by their seats:

They were pumped. This pic was taken on Matt's phone. He took the camera, so I should have some more pictures to blog after they get home tonight.

Other noteworthy weekend happenings: I started working on my 2011 project 365 blog book (I ended up with a picture 305 out of 365 days). And the Houston Texans won their playoff game!!! :)

December 28th: Grandma's Crew

Wednesday, we drove to Houston to have lunch and mini-Christmas with my immediate family. The cousins got to hang out, open presents, and then we headed to the park for some outside fun! Then it was off to Brenham for a Cothern Country Christmas.

December 29th: A Serious Operation

I don't have many pictures from the present opening chaos, mostly I was videoing. After tearing through gifts in 10 minutes flat, the kids went on to try everything out at least once. Grammy gave Noah his very first Operation game.

After tearing through the presents (which I took lots of video of), we ate breakfast, threw on some clothes, and went to a birthday party for Jesus at church. I'll have to upload video of all of the kids singing Happy Birthday.

We came home to delicious smells of Prime Rib. Matt prepared us an amazing Christmas feast.

A perfect 2 days of family, fun and celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. We are so blessed and full of His hope, peace, love and joy. We are looking forward to the upcoming week, celebrating with the rest of our families. Merry Christmas!

You can tell we weren't planning to get out of the car: no coats, no shoes, and pajamas! My favorite part was listening to the kids sing Christmas songs in the car.

This may qualify as my first official turkey. After our master chef fell ill, I stepped in and did the best I could to create Bobby Flay's Black Pepper-Pomegranate Molasses Glazed Turkey. Thankfully Matt had prepared the molasses on Wednesday, so all I really did was follow the recipe. He did have me kick it up a notch by using a garlic and sage infused butter to rub the turkey with first. Although it turned out all right in the end, I'm not looking forward to being in charge of the turkey again any time soon. Get Well Matt!

My brand new laptop crashed on Sunday. The technician came today and installed a new hard drive. We are now in the process of restoring all of the backed up files. Working off of the dinosaur for now.

Friday 10/21: Let the Girl's Weekend Begin!

Mattie and Claire can't help but dance wherever they go. They were so excited to see each other, and ready for a weekend of fun at Grammy and Grandpa's!

Saturday 10/22: Hockey Addicts

The game was very exciting, and the Stars won in overtime! More importantly, we went home from the game and watched Texas Tech BEAT Oklahoma! Logan said it was the best day ever.

Sunday 10/23: Plucker's POWER PLAY!

When the Texas Stars score a goal on a power play, everyone gets a coupon for 5 free wings. 4 games into the season and we have at least 35 coupons. As a treat, we took the boys to get wings after church on Sunday.

We went to Lubbock for Homecoming on Saturday. I got to cheer on the field for the first half of the game. I even got to do a back flip basket toss - my favorite! The game didn't end the way we wanted, but we had a fun time feeling like we were back in college for a few hours!

A New Treasure To Cherish

My Mommy made this quilt for me. She gave it to me today. I cried. She told me when I need a hug and she's not here, that I should wrap myself up in this quilt and it is a hug from her. You will find me wrapped in it often. Thank you Mommy for this amazing gift of love.
